Genesis has unveiled its Genesis X Convertible concept at a special event in California. The four-seater convertible joins the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe to complete a trio of bold design studies that showcase the brand’s commitment to sustainable luxury and cutting-edge electric vehicle technology.
Sharing its advanced architecture and electric powertrain with the 2021 X Concept and X Speedium Coupe concept, the Genesis X Convertible represents an evolution of the brand’s Athletic Elegance design language, as well giving another glimpse at the look of future Genesis electric vehicles.
Featuring a unique folding hardtop roof that houses individual glass panels above the front occupants, the Genesis X Convertible offers a heightened sensory experience thanks to the open roof, providing driver and passengers a direct connection with their surrounding environment.
At the front of the Genesis X Convertible are the trademark LED quad lights that help create the brand’s Two-Line graphic identity. At the rear, the Genesis X Convertible concept features a bold concave elliptical tailgate design with integrated spoiler, while the horizontal quad taillights echo those already seen on the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe.
Finally, the wheels combine the trademark Genesis’ G-Matrix pattern with an efficient aero dish concave section that both improves airflow and helps to cool the brakes.
The interior of the X Convertible concept features a four-seat layout with a special focus on the driving environment. A wraparound instrument panel seamlessly integrates the centre console, creating a driver focussed environment that highlights the Genesis X Convertible concept’s performance potential.
Speaking about the Genesis X Convertible chief creative officer, Luc Donckerwolke, said: “It is the normal development of Genesis to increase the athletic and emotional facet of our design philosophy by creating an emotional trilogy: the X family. Electric powertrains have given us the perfect scenario in which to enjoy nature, which is something convertibles do better than any other vehicle. With the Genesis X Convertible, we have built upon the stunning success X Concept and X Speedium Coupe to further propel the brand’s mission to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance.”
Genesis will introduce three electric vehicles in 2022 and, from 2025, all-new Genesis vehicles will be pure electric as part of the brand’s vision for a sustainable future. Genesis will also pursue a goal to become carbon net zero by 2035.
